Joe Walters, Walters Chiropractic!

There is a new shingle hanging from the end of the Pawnee Laundromat, the building is freshly painted, and a nice black sign with bold while letters states, Walters Chiropractic. This isn’t a new person coming to town, but rather, Joe Walters, has come home, and set up business in Pawnee.

“I was born and raised here and moved away but found my way back.  It is nice to give back to the community.  I was gone for 14 years, but Pawnee always felt like home.  It has changed a little, but it is nice to be back again.”

As for his new business, he said, “I have been open for less than a year.”

Opening this past January 16th, he found his office space on Facebook. “I am here limited hours, so I don’t need anything crazy.”

The space seems to fit his need perfectly. With a new coat of paint, remodeled floors and walls, the office was just what Joe Walters needed to open his new business.  “I am open Monday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday noon from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Although lately several patients have been coming at 7:15 so they can come before work.”

Monday afternoon and Friday morning are the busiest times so far,” Joe shared.

Joe said that the services he offers are straightforward.  “It is all hands on, stretching, a massage gun, adjustments, and help with exercise.”

In addition to quality Chiropractic adjustments, they also offer simple and effective therapies such as mechanical massage, TENS, heat/ice, and stretching.  Why do we occasionally need chiropractic assistance?  On his website he points out, “Simply put, our bodies were made to move. Unfortunately, our daily activities or lack of activity cause our joints to get stuck or restricted. Our joints need proper motion to stay healthy. When the joints in the body become, restricted this can lead to increased pain, decreased performance, and development of arthritis.”

Joe added that his business is cash based that they don’t bill health insurance, although patients can use a health savings account, so he added, “We have lower rates, I charge $35.00 for an adjustment, and $5.00 for additional treatment. I don’t charge for an exam or a consultation.”

This energetic young man set up his office and moved to town all this past winter.  “Me and my wife Jordan, moved back to Pawnee.  I went to Edwardsville, and got my bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, then went to Logan University and got my Doctorate in Chiropractic in 2015.”

After graduating, he worked in a chiropractic office in Glen Carbon. Besides moving this past winter, he added, “I just got married three months ago in December.”

Joe was running a chiropractic office in Glen Carbon and Jordan had just finished up her master’s degree when he met her at the local community pool.  “She is from Sullivan Illinois, after we got married, she wanted to be close to family, so we moved here.”

Besides the newly opened chiropractic office, Joe also has another business in Edwardsville as well.  “I own a Martial Arts Business called Gracie Humaita Edwardsville.”

Opening a chiropractic office in Pawnee was the perfect place since this is where he wanted to end up at the end of the day.

In December besides getting married and moving to Pawnee, he also expanded his Martial Art’s business from a 1,700 square foot building to a 6,000 square foot space!

Jordan is also using her degree locally as well.  “She is a therapist at a veteran’s center in Springfield.”

As far as why Pawnee, Joe answered, “My family is all here.  The drive to Edwardsville is one hours’ drive away and I have two employees in the Edwardsville Martial Art’s office and others that manage the gym.”

Since he has been back, Joe said he feels like part of the community.  He was recently asked to be part of the Donkey basketball. He was a good sport and rode in the alumni donkey game. “We plan to be involved in the community, especially after we have kids eventually.  My dad Dale is running for the Village of Pawnee Board,” he shared showing that his family is currently involved in the community already.
