All golf carts and UTVs are required to be inspected and registered with the Pawnee Police Department. The cost of a golf cart registration is $30.00 annually. A registered golf cart is considered a motor vehicle and all applicable state laws and local ordinances apply to its use on the village streets. Required Documents to Register your Golf Cart / UTV
- Valid Driver’s License (Must be 18 years of age for UTV)
- Valid proof of insurance to operate the golf cart on the roadway
- For UTVs Only: Certificate of Completion of the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association Safety Course from each applicant and each authorized operator (available at for free at www.rohva.org )
Required Safety Equipment for Golf Cart / UTV
- Brakes and brake lights
- Headlight visible up to 500 feet
- Horn
- Rearview mirror
- “Slowing moving vehicle” emblem as defined in section 12-709 of the Illinois vehicle code
- Steering wheel
- Taillight with red light visible up to 100 feet
- Tires
- Turn signals, front and rear
For UTVs:
- A stock muffler
- Red reflectorized warning devices, front and rear
- Seatbelts for operator and passenger seats
